| Norway's Expatriate Parliament | In June, 2007, approximately 60 interested people met, among them representatives of Norwegian associations from around the world, to discuss the establishment of a parliament for expatriate Norwegians. The Norwegian Parliament, otherwise known as Norgestinget, will create a forum and an opportunity for Norwegian Expatriates and their descendants to voice their concerns and problems as they relate to the Norwegian Government.
Naturally, as Norwegian ex-pats are found throughout the world and span across a wide spectrum - the issues will vary from region to region and individual to individual. This group is understandably very diverse and consists of both first generation emigrantes and people with Norwegian ancestry.
In either case, there will be issues and problems that can be voiced and solved through Norgestinget. These issues may relate to citizenship, taxes, inheritance, voting rights, work permits, education, financial support etc.
This list is far from conclusive and we would like to hear what issues you would like us to address.
Many ex-pats and their descendants feel forgotten or "neglected" by the Norwegian Government. It is our opinion that this needs to be properly addressed and Norgestinget will aim to provide a channel of communication and resources to solve such issues. Furthermore, the Norwegian Government would benefit from a close relationship with the resourceful, diverse and successful global community.
